How the numbers are made
Hiretto counts public job listings. It does not survey employers or candidates, and it never republishes the ads themselves.
Source
Every morning we take a snapshot of Information & Communication Technology listings on SEEK New Zealand. A listing is active in a week if it appeared in at least one daily snapshot that week. Weeks run Monday to Sunday, New Zealand time.
Definitions
- New listings — first seen during the week. Listings that were already up on our first collection day (8 October 2026) are treated as existing stock and never counted as new.
- Region — the region in SEEK's location field (for example Christchurch roles count under Canterbury).
- Stacks, work mode, visas, employers, AI skills — read from each ad's text by a language model and checked against a hand-reviewed sample of 50 ads; shares are of active listings that have been read this way.
- Advertised pay — the salary SEEK shows on the listing, or a figure stated in the ad. Hourly rates are multiplied by 2,080 and daily rates by 230 to compare with annual salaries; we use the midpoint of the advertised range. Only NZ dollar figures count.
- Time on market — days between first and last sighting for listings taken down that week. It is only reported once we have 30 days of history, and it leaves out listings that were already up on our first collection day, because their real start date is unknown.
Limitations
- Only SEEK is covered, and only its ICT category. Roles advertised elsewhere, or filled without an ad, are invisible here.
- Advertised pay is what employers choose to publish — a minority of listings — and contract rates are annualised as if worked full time.
- Any group with fewer than 10 listings is hidden rather than shown with a misleading number.
- Collection occasionally misses a day. An issue covering a week with missing collection days says so at the top of the page, naming the days.
- Week-on-week comparisons are left blank when the previous week is incomplete: fewer than 5 collection days, or before collection started.
- Week-on-week changes and four-week trends start once enough complete weeks are in; until then the issue is marked as a baseline.
